The Composers' Society of Montgomery County, Inc. is a non-profit
corporation chartered in Maryland in 1997. Its purpose is to
promote the composition of new musical works, and the public performance of
those works, for the enrichment and entertainment of the general public. All
activities associated with music composition are also supported as purposes
of the organization.
The CSMC accepts members from any geographic location,
and of any age. Membership dues are currently $30/yr. (Oct-Sep),
or $15 for 1/2 year or less for the period from Apr 1-Sep 30.
Membership is required for compositions to be considered for
performance.
We hold meetings once a month, except in summer, in Montgomery
County, Maryland, and usually hold 2-4 parties per year in the
Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.
Our current performance schedule is three concerts per year of small
ensemble works, generally up to a limit of six performers per composition.
Our June 13th, 2008 concert will be our 30th CSMC concert to date.
Many of our members' works are "classical" in style, but there are no
limits on style of the works presented. Works in jazz style, spirituals,
and rock music have been presented in past concerts.
We use both paid professional musicians and volunteer musicians for
our concerts, depending on Society finances and other circumstances.
